Which character seems the most admirable to you?  Why?

Now don't get confused, girls - this is just Mrs. C editorializing a little here to make the post a little more fun.  This has nothing to do with the question.  I was reading a few reviews of The Chrysalids and a few people have said that it reminded them a  bit of the movie "Blast From the Past" with one of my favorite actors, Brendan Fraser.  So if you're in the mood for an older movie and a not-too-hard-to-look-at actor, it is a great movie.  (I think the book tie-in would be the post-nuclear disaster theme.)
This video clip has nothing to do with the assigned question and you are not required to watch it, but it is kind of amusing.  Brendan Fraser has grown up his entire life underground in a fallout shelter with only his parents for company.

At the end of Chapter One, David is in a serious dilemma. On one hand, he believes in the religious teachings he has received, while on the other hand, he cannot accept that having 6 toes on your feet can be a serious offence. How would you feel if you found yourself in a situation where your beliefs clashed with what you really wanted to do?

When asked where she got the inspiration for this film, Ms. Pazira responds, "Very specifically [it came] from the incident of a friend of mine who was making a film [in Afghanistan] and had [cast a local] woman. Her husband at the time was away in Pakistan and they were filming in Kabul. Once the shooting was done her husband returned and discovered his wife was on a film set and he actually killed her."

Back in the 1960's, the group Jefferson Airplane supposedly wrote their song "Crown of Creation" with John Wyndham's book in mind. There are some almost direct quotations in the lyrics.
